On this tour we will visit one of the oldest Mayan cities, Ek Balam (Black Jaguar). The city has a long history. At the end of the 8th century CE the city became the seat of the new royal court and there was a great development of art and architecture. Ek ’Balam played an important role in the region, years 1000-1250. The importance of the city is evidenced by the fact that it had its own glyph-emblem. Although the architecture of Ek ’Balam can be influenced by the regions of Campeche, Puuc and Petén, it shows its own, different style, clearly visible especially in the ornamentation of the buildings, covered with stucco and paintings.
